Mas Pams in Bompas

An Urban Park of the 21st century

Year of studies : 2023/2024 - Completion : 2025

Surface : 1.15ha

Contractin Authority : Bompas city

Project Manager leader : Atelier Pous Architecte

Project Manager team : Estudi Marti Franch, JCK Ingenieurie.

For this project, Alexis PERROCHEAU, current associate at TELLU, was the project manager in the company of Estudi Marti Franch for this project. He followed and developed the project from the competition phase to the DCE phase. Marti FRANCH, the director of EMF also followed this project with Alexis PERROCHEAU.

The project consists of transforming an old football stadium into the city center of Bompas, near Perpignan. The commitment to this project was from the beginning to be ambitious in creating a public park that will embody the ambitions and values of the 21st century.   From this objective, several principles follow :

1. Species of spaces
The diversity of spaces subtly created by topographic movements, the implantation of shrubs and the arrangement of trees promote the diversity of uses within the park.

2. A fine work of topography
The balance of backfill and rubble is designed so that there is no input or output of material to reduce the economic and ecological impact of the project. Moreover, the embankments do not exceed 90cm in height compared to the initial level of the plot to limit any obstacle during the floods of the river La Bassa nearby.

3. Water management respecting the alluvial plain
The design of the topography is designed to direct the waters towards the amphitheater, the lowest point of the plot. As a result, the park turns into a sponge capable of accommodating excess water.

4. A structured and important tree cover
The planting density is important to make quickly windbreak and combine with the shrubs to compartmentalize the spaces. Moreover, this dense implantation guarantees continuity and an important shading quality essential in summer period with nearly 70% of the shaded space.

5. Adapted and diversified species of trees and shrubs
The plants are native to the Mediterranean climate to facilitate their acclimatization but also to ensure real biodiversity.

6. Irrigation from gray water
Irrigation will be the cornerstone for the success of vegetation implantation. To be as environmentally friendly as possible and save water resources, the grey waters of the third place and the school canteen present on site will be treated and reused as an irrigation medium.
