The Ribbon, The Sponge and the Willows
Europan 18 project in Nancy
Year : 2025
Territory : Around Canal Marne au Rhin
Team : Agence TELLU and Anaïs Berthomé
The project proposes to build a large park on the scale of the rivers Meurthe and Moselle: The River Park of the Meurthe and Moselle (RPMM). He takes care of what is most important: The water that irrigates the Living.
From the Vosges to Luxembourg, from Jarville-La-Malgrange to Nancy, our team has endeavoured to place water and living things at the center of the urban network by using geography.
The RPMM slows down water to increase its time in the floodplains in order to better infiltrate it. Thanks to the different landscape structures set up, the park sustainably supports human life and its activities.
At the scale of Grand-Nancy, the park creates a federating entity from upstream to downstream. It takes support on three main principles to intervene in space:
- Water as a project catalyst for both public spaces and large industrial and commercial buildings
- The soil and plantations as a prelude to mutation
- Public spaces improved thanks to new uses
Along the water emerges "The garden of Grand Nancy", figurehead of the River Park. This space, stretching from Jarville to the Rive de Meurthe district, becomes the place of the first flexible, progressive and frugal developments. Leaning against the canal, these transformations revitalize the urban fabric through uses, factors of a new cultural and social vitality.
